What is your work at the Trust?

My work at the Trust involves supporting the development of new programming and initiatives, fostering relationships both internally and externally, and making connections and providing resources to grantees and those we serve. I bring historical knowledge and context to the work we do, and I love coaching and collaborating with my team to think creatively and brainstorm innovative solutions to the growing well-being needs of educators around our state.

Why do I do this work?

I do this work because educators give so much of themselves to our children, families, and communities and their health and well-being should be a priority. I do this work to help support the development of inclusive, accessible, and nourishing education environments so they feel that they are cared for and the passion they bring to their work is appreciated.

What unique talents do I bring to the work, according to my colleagues?

  • Rachel is cooperative, always finding ways to support her colleagues. Her reliability is a strength for our organization.
  • Rachel is always there for her teammates and the organization. She sees the steps in project planning as opportunities for program improvement and has a thorough attention to detail.
  • Rachel is clear-sighted in her vision for the work of education employee well-being, and she can often see a path forward when things seem confusing or unclear. Rachel holds so much institutional wisdom and is not afraid to try new ideas, especially if they will lead to increased equity or clearer processes.

Previous work/credentials:

Before coming to the Trust, I worked at OHSU in the Sports Medicine and Health Promotion Department, developing and implementing an employee wellness program for all OHSU staff members and supporting two grant-funded nutrition programs for high school athletes.  For a short time, I also worked as an assistant teacher in the Head Start program.

Who am I?

I was born and raised in Portland, OR. I am a proud mom to Harmon and lab-mix Lou and partner to James.

What does well-being look like for me?

To me, well-being is holistic. I tend to my personal well-being by spending time in nature, going for a morning run, eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies, fostering meaningful relationships, and enjoying a good cup of coffee. I also tend to my well-being by being an active member of my community, listening and learning from the experiences of others to create a more just and equitable world. Finally, my family is at the heart of my life. Spending time with my son, husband, pup and extended family brings me endless joy and fulfillment!
